Atlético vs Manchester United post match review, result and updates.

Manchester United were back in action again in the Champions League on Wednesday night. The United team travelled all the way from England to Spain to battle with Atlético Madrid for the first leg of their Champions league round of 16 tie.

Manchester United supporters in Spain showed up and in massive support for Manchester United.

The match had hardly been up to 7 minutes when Atlético's Joao Felix get an header into the back of the net after receiving a cross from Renan Lodi. Atlético almost took the 1-0 lead advantage to old Trafford but United equalised.

Atlético Madrid delivered a great performance in controlling the game. Even without the ball, they managed to keep United away and pressed.

Rangnick's plan fails

In the match against Atlético Madrid, Rangnick deployed Victor lindelof as full-back. The plan ended up working against his side just after Seven minutes when Joao Felix got an header into the back of United's net.

Rangnick later gave up on that plan and conceeded that the plan was in the dustbin. Victor lindelof was uncomfortable throughout at the full-back position till he was substituted in the second-half.

He was even booked for a "tug" on Felix.

Atlético Madrid took advantage of Manchester United in the right, since that was their weak point.

Atlético should have been 2 goals ahead in the first half when Sime Vrsalyko heads the ball off lindelof but the ball hits United's bar just some moments to the half-time break. There was a poor defending there.

Atlético Controlled the game and United dominated the match.

Manchester United side actually had the plenty of the ball, but they were slow in possession. They were indecisive in possession and were not really capable of opening and getting past their opponent (Atlético) - who actually controlled the match and consecutively taking advantage of every United pass that were sloppy in the midfield.

Atlético Madrid were unlucky as they failed to get a winner when Antonie Griezman rattled the United's 'crossbar'

Manchester United's Match performance - Bad

Manchester United will go again in the second leg to battle Atlético Madrid, this time it would be at home in the great Old Trafford stadium.

Manchester United were disjointed in 'possession', they misplaced a lot of passes at an alarming rate. The likes of Fred, Fernandes and Paul Pogba all failed to give the performance (standard) needed from them.

It was obvious that Scot McTominay athleticism was missed solely in the United midfield.

A lot of mistakes happened at the back , where Fred charge out towards the ball and there were lack of communication which is obvious as Felix got past Harry Maguire to score the opening header.

Victor lindelof wasn't himself at the position he wasas and United struggled, until the likes of Elanga, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Alex Tellex were brought in. United improved afterwards and were able to equalised from Elanga's shot.

Elanga Scores It For United

Yeah, though, Elanga missed a penalty which saw United disqualified from the FA cup. But yet, the Lad have been  great for United. Scoring two goals as a substitute in last two appearances for United.

Apart from the goal, he provided the pace and threat United lacked before he was brought in few minutes to full time. He became United youngest goal scorer (in the knockout stages of the Champions league).
